Bringing you real marine science from a fake underwater laboratory. Ocean Syrup is an online publication that looks at all the things we love about the ocean. The strange, the beautiful, and the awe-inspiring.

Our mission is to spread our love of the deep blue and to help protect it. Through dissemination of information, charitable donations, and hands-on action, Ocean Syrup seeks to do our part to preserve and restore marine life.

Our primary way of going about this is to raise money and awareness for Marine Protected Areas (MPA). MPAs have proven their effectiveness in restoring and preserving marine life. Unfortunately, they are currently underfunded and under-utilized.

Canada, for instance, has the most coastline of any country in the world. Yet only 1.7% of Canada’s ocean is currently protected. The current goal is to expand that to 20%. It’s a big task, but an achievable goal.

It’s not too late to save our oceans and all the wonderful, weird, and wacky creatures that reside in them. In Canada, and around the world, marine protected areas are capable of having a major impact.
